Cornerstone laid in September, 1859; the church was completed by October, 1860. The building was designed by Patrick Keely with interior decorations by "Mr. Cresionina and frescoes by Mr. Augero".1 Keely also designed the rectory (on Warren Street) and academy (on Hicks Street).
Construction for the church began in 1836, under the direction of "an architect named King, who built several of the Protestant churches of this city".1 This likely refers to Gamiel King, who was prominent in this time.
The Pacific Street Methodist Episcopal Church was constructed in 1851 at the northwest corner of Pacific and Clinton Streets. The congregation was established in 1844 and for the first few years worshiped in the former South Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, located on Pacific between Court and Clinton Streets.
