St. Joseph's College for Women was founded in 19161 and was first located on Washington Avenue. It operated as a women's college until 1970, when it became co-educational. The college was founded by the Sisters of St.
Per Bronx Catholic, AIA Guide attributes the church to Anton Kloster.
Founded in 1914, the Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception was a minor seminary with a four-year high school and a two-year college track.
According to church website, design is credited to Steinback alone.
Built for Catherine Lipsius, widow of Claus Lipsius ([ibib]856[/ibib] page#). The Claus-Lipsius Brewery, also designed by Engelhardt, was located at Forrest Street and Bushwick Avenue, with bottling facilities at Garden Street adn Bushwick Avenue. The Lipsius house is often (and incorrectly) described as the William Ulmer residence - Ulmer's residence (now demolished) was across the street at 680 Bushwick Avenue.
