Robert J. Reiley

Robert J. Reiley was born in New York City and graduated from Columbia University's School of Architecture in 1900. He worked as a draftsman in the office of Ernest Flagg from 1900 to 1902, and as a construction supervisor for Van Vleck and Goldsmith from 1902 to 1903. In 1904 he formed a partnership with Gustave Steinback, a Columbia classmate. The partnership, Reiley & Steinback, lasted until 1913 and was known for its work for Roman Catholic clients in New York and elsewhere in the east. After the partnership dissolved in 1913, Reiley went into private practice, where he continued to focus on Roman Catholic works. 1 In the 1920s and 1930s Reiley was one of a handful of architects pre-selected by the Diocesan Building Commission of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
